Bendel Insurance may have continued their unbeaten streak this season, but they did not get their desired result as they were pecked to a 1-1 draw by Sunshine Stars on Monday night.

It turned to be their 10th  drawn game in 11 matches of the  Nigerian league. They last won a league match on 22 April when they beat El Kanemi Warriors 2-1.

The 1-1 draw narrowed their chances of becoming Nigerian professional league champions for the first time.

Their last success was in the old-styled National League which they won in 1979 after drawing with the defunct Water Corporation FC of Ibadan at the Liberty Stadium on the last match day of the season.

At the Mobolaji Johnson Arena venue of the Super 6 Nigerian League, Bendel opened the game with fury and netting a goal in the seventh minute through Divine Nwachukwu.

But that was where the game ended for them as the third match of the Super 6 turned a ding-dong affair.

In the 62nd minute Ekerette Udom equalised for Sunshine Stars to stalemate the scores at 1-1. Bendel Insurance though undefeated after two matches are now fourth- rooted outside the continental slot zone.

Sunshine stars are fifth while Lobi Stars are sixth. The festival of football resume on Wednesday at the same venue.
