The hope of Nigeria’s Lobi Stars making it to the knockout stage of the CAF Champions League was extinguished on Saturday night in Pretoria after the team crumbled 3-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.

Lobi Stars thus crashed out as the bottom-placed side of Group A. Their defeat began almost at the blast of the referee’s whistle as the South Africans found the net just before the third minute.

Thapelo Morena ran behind the Lobi Stars’ defence to fire past Lobi Stars’ goalkeeper, Olufemi Kayode.

Then in quick succession, the hosts scored two goals in the 37th and 39th minutes through Themba Zwane  and Lebohang Maboe respectively.
