Council Boss Backs Abuja SWAN Sports Summit
Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Adamu Mustapha has expressed happiness on the preparation of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN in the Federal Capital Territory to put together a sports summit. When this is done, it will be a logical follow up to the one the Federal Government had in 2012.
Mustapha who was speaking when he received the executive members of the pen profession in his office at Gwagwalada on Tuesday however assured of his readiness to support the programme which he said was in line with the vision of his administration since he resumed office one year ago.
While intimating the visiting SWAN officials on his proposed one year anniversary taking place on Wednesday with commissioning of various completed projects, the local council boss remarked; “Sport today is the biggest industry that accommodates the great number of people especially the youth whether globally, nationally, and at the local government level.
“So any intensified care, any material assistant that is needed to support sport anybody that is placed in a position that can do that should do it wholeheartedly because It reduces crime in the society. It reduces unemployment; it creates a lot of understanding between tribal groups as well as religious groups.
“That is why immediately I assumed office, the first thing I did is to organise football competition and a lot of sporting event, some of them have been completed while some are still ongoing. As I talk to you, the final of chairmanship football competition is at semi-final stage now. Soonest, we shall fix a date for the final.”
Earlier, SWAN Chairman, FCT Chapter Kayode Adeniyi commended the exploits of the council chairman and beckoned on him to join other well-meaning Stakeholders within Abuja to make upcoming Sports summit a success.
