Bahamas 2017: Make or Break For Tie For Sand Super Eagles
The Super Sand Eagles are in a make or mar encounter this Monday night as they face second placed Iran. There is no other option. It is either an outright victory in regulation time to hit a five point mark, or win in extra time to be just a point above Iran.
It was a spectacular come-back feat achieved early Sunday morning that has given the Nigerian side the chances of advancing after Mexico were beaten 5-4 in the first drawn match in regulation time at Bahamas 2017.
The spectacular form displayed against Mexico will have to be repeated in the encounter with Iran if Nigeria hopes to advance. The quarter finals had been the limit the Nigerian side ever achieved in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
In their last match that began late Saturday night and ending early Sunday morning, it was the Mexicans that initially took control of the contest after goals from Abdiel Villa and Angel Rodriguez.
Emeka Ogbona struck right back before Ramon Maldonado restored Mexico’s two-goal advantage.
However, Nigeria responded through Azeez Abu before a late Victor Tale penalty resulted in the first regulation-time draw at Bahamas 2017. Nigeria outlasted Mexico in the extra-time period, with Abu scoring the winner just seconds from the end to claim the two points on offer.
