BY KUNLE SOLAJA.
New CAF President, Ahmad has accepted the resignation of General Secretary, Hicham El Amrani of Morocco and announced that Deputy General Secretary, Essam Ahmed, an Egyptian will act in that capacity until further notice.
That was the high point of Ahmad’s first day in office as he on Sunday formally assumed duties at the 6 October City secretariat of CAF at the outskirt of Cairo.
The CAF president accompanied by two of the new members of his executive committee, Constant Omari Selemani of DR Congo and Ghana’s Kwesi Nyantakyi, met with the staff of the secretariat and also introduced two members of his personal staff, Hedi Hamel, the communications advisor and Ludovic Christian Lomotsi, the legal advisor.
He told the staff: “This house belongs to you. CAF is yours. Let’s protect our institution, we politicians are just passing by, but you have been called to stay.
“I have confidence in you and I am convinced that with you, we will be able to succeed and develop African football more.”
After the general meeting, the CAF president held sectional meetings with the different divisions – finance, services, human resources and competition departments.
