Ikenne set for all-night party to celebrate league title
No car will be parked on the premises of the Remo Stars Stadium on Sunday during the last home match of the season for Remo Stars as they host Ikorodu City.
The car park is set to turn into a carnival ground as an all-night party is in the offing to celebrate Remo Stars’ league victory.
According to the club in its X handle, this year’s league victory is the first of many to come. They have planned a big celebration as Shoday is billed to perform and thrill the crowd.
Remo Stars planned refreshments for the first 1,500 fans at the stadium. It will not just be football and entertainment, there will be freebies to be won.
They include a 55-inch Smart TV, return tickets on ValueJet airlines, as well as smartphones.

Remo Stars could end the league on high point

If Remo Stars are not complacent and win their last home match against Ikorodu City, they will be on the threshold of a record in the Nigerian league.
A win takes their season’s point haul to 71, just two behind the 73 points attained by the Dolphins in the 2010/11 season. At the time, it was the highest ever since the 20-team format began in 2005.
But the highest point haul was achieved by Rivers United, who had 77 points to win the league title in the 2021/22 season.
That will be unassailable this season as there is just one more round of matches after this weekend.

NPFL establishes level playing ground as league enters home stretch

All the matchday 37 fixtures will begin at 3 pm on the same day this Sunday. The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has directed a simultaneous Kick-off time of 3 pm for all the matches.
Chief Operating Officer of the NPFL, Davidson Owumi said the directive is consistent with the policy of ensuring sporting fairness to all participating clubs.
“We earlier directed that for the trophy presentation ceremony in Ikenne, the fixture should kick off at 3 pm for safety reasons.
“After extensive assessment of all the fixtures which impact the outcome for continental slots and relegation survival, we resolved to set a uniform Kick-off time for all”, Owumi clarified.
Fixtures of Matchday 37 will be played on Sunday, May 11 at all centres, with the crown champions, Remo Stars, hosting the top three chasing Ikorodu City. In Umuahia, another top-three chasing side, Abia Warriors, will host El-Kanemi Warriors.

Early kick-off for first NPFL trophy presentation in 25 years

The Remo Stars versus Ikorodu City match of the NPFL will come up an hour ahead of the early schedule time. The match will see hosts, Remo Stars, being crowned as kings of the Nigerian football league.
Remo Stars have already become the Nigerian champions, even with three matches outstanding. They are the first Southwest club to win the league since the 2000 feat of Julius Berger of Lagos.
The slight adjustment to their kick-off time for the Matchday 37 fixture with third-place chasing Ikorodu City has been announced by the NPFL.
The match, earlier scheduled to kick off at 4 pm, has been brought forward to 3 pm on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
Davidson Owumi, the Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), said the slight adjustment is to ensure the safety of dignitaries and fans who would travel from Lagos to Ikenne for the trophy presentation ceremony that would hold at the end of the match.
“There will be many fans of both clubs travelling from Lagos for this match. In addition, we would be having dignitaries arriving through Lagos, and it would be ideal for them to travel back under the bright light of the day for safety reasons, ” explained Owumi.
Preparations are at an advanced stage to organise an outstanding and colourful trophy presentation ceremony. A joint team of the NPFL and Remo Stars management have been putting finishing touches to the plan.
