Kaduna Basketball Boss, Morrison Appointed FIBA Technical Commissioner
Chairman Kaduna State Basketball Association, Scambo Morrison has been appointed into the exclusive list of Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA), Technical Officials Committee.
Morrison, a former international and board member in the Tijjani Umar led Nigeria Basketball Federation Board joins Sam Ahmedu as Technical Commissioners from Nigeria at FIBA.
The president Nigeria Technical Commissioners’ appointment was last week conveyed to Nigeria in a letter by FIBA after Morrison sat and passed the mandated Technical Commissioners examination. Others who are technical commissioners from Nigeria include Akinseinde Ishola Stephen and Oboro Adeola Eminu.
Reacting to the appointment, an elated Morrison described the development as a sign of a new dawn for Nigerian basketball considering that someone has made it a one-man show at FIBA.
“The impression being created before now was that the feat was unachievable. They made it look like a mountain unclimbable for some of us. It was so bad that information to help Nigeria achieve this feat was kept secret.
“They created so much fear in us the younger ones and we were related to by those already there as if it was a step that cannot be easily climbed.
“I am happy that I am one of the youngest Technical Commissioners from the country,” remarked the former basketball star.
Describing it as a jinx broken, he said making sure Nigeria gets a good representation was his utmost desire.
“It is a jinx broken and my aim is to ensure that Nigeria gets quality representation at FIBA particularly for technical officials and matters relating to basketball development in the country.
“It has always been one man show which should not be the case. Now we have opportunity to represent the country as well as sell our nation properly to ensure that the interest of the players and technical officials are adequately protected.
“My watch word is integrity at FIBA. I will explain, expatiate and tell Nigeria the truth about happenings at FIBA according to the rules. I will serve as an unbiased bridge between FIBA and Nigeria.
“Encouraging others to aspire is also key to me since I don’t believe in politics but building the benefits of the game through morals and dedication,” he remarked.

FIBA REAFFIRMS MUSA KIDA BOARD
The Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) has once again reaffirmed Musa Kida as the sole President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF).
This was contained in its latest letter dated 18th December and addressed to the Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympics Committee, Chief Tunde Popoola who had written to the apex world basketball governing body on the need to name the “eligible representative of the NBBF who will be at the (Nigerian Olympic Committee) (NOC) elective AGM and to vote” in Yola.
FIBA through its newly appointed Secretary General, Andreas Zaglis in their response said “FIBA has communicated with the board of Mr Kida concerning the affairs of the NBBF since July 2017 and has organized FIBA events with the same board’s assistance.”
“Besides, FIBA notes that good progress is being made in regularizing fully the NBBF-FIBA relationship, which remains an internal matter of the basketball family, since the NBBF is not suspended and enjoy full rights as a member,” FIBA continued.
FIBA explained that having earlier received a letter from the NOC recognizing the board elected on the 13th of June 2017 in Abuja and the recent memo of the Federal Ministry of Youth Sports Development revalidating Kida and his board, the international body has deemed it fit to accord the board all the necessary recognition.
The latest letter which finally put paid to insinuations in different quarters over who is in charge of basketball administration in Nigeria expressly named Kida who recently bagged a Doctorate Degree in Credit Management.
The letter granting Kida (or a validly nominated delegate of his) therefore nullified the earlier erroneous pronouncement of the NOC electoral committee chaired by Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima that no board had been recognized by FIBA as the legitimate basketball federation.
With FIBA’s position clearly stated on who is in charge of basketball administration in Nigeria, Engr. (Dr) Musa Kida called on all basketball stakeholders to join hands and contribute meaningfully to basketball growth.
He said despite the recent landmark achievements recorded by the board since its assumption of office, more ground could have been covered especially at the home front if not the incessant distractions.
