Preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 moved a step forward on after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) held a virtual briefing with representatives of the technical staff from all 24 qualified nations.

The meeting, conducted via Zoom brought together CAF officials and team managers to clarify key organisational and competition-related details ahead of the tournament, which kicks off on December 21, 2025.

One of the major updates from the session is that each participating country will be allowed to register a final squad of 28 players, an increase from the traditional 23-man roster.

The expanded list is designed to help teams better manage player fitness, injuries, workload and potential health-related concerns during the month-long event.

CAF further confirmed that each national team may include up to 17 members of technical staff, ensuring adequate support across coaching, medical, logistics, and performance analysis roles.

  • Broadcast requirements, and
  • Competition timelines.

The 24 teams are now expected to finalise their preliminary lists in the coming weeks before submitting their 28-man final squads ahead of Morocco 2025.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has kicked off the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 Diaspora Tour, a vibrant continental showcase designed to connect Africa’s football heritage with its vast global diaspora.

Described as more than a promotional tour, the initiative celebrates the unity, identity and cultural energy that African football inspires worldwide.

The tour will make a dazzling stop in London on Friday at Below the Lights, Piccadilly Circus, and will continue to Paris on Thursday 4 December, where fans will gather at YOYO in the Palais de Tokyo.

CAF officials say the tour is meant to “forge an unbreakable bridge” between Africa—the birthplace of generations of football legends—and the diaspora communities that continue to champion, support and amplify the continent’s game across global stages.

At the centre of the tour is the AFCON trophy, showcased as a symbol of continental pride and a reminder that Africa’s biggest football prize belongs to Africans everywhere—whether in Casablanca, Lagos, London, Paris or beyond.

The London and Paris events pay tribute not only to the iconic African players who rose to stardom on European soil, but also to the millions of fans whose passion links the diaspora with the continent’s rich football culture.

CAF says each stop honours “the enduring connection that pulses through every match, every cheer, and every goal.”

As Morocco prepares to host the 2025 AFCON, the diaspora tour signals the beginning of the journey toward Africa’s premier football tournament—one that CAF insists will be shared by Africans wherever they live.

The road to Morocco 2025, it declared, “begins together.”

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed December 11, 2025 as the final deadline for all participating countries— including Nigeria — to submit their definitive 23-man squads for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

With the tournament scheduled to run from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026, CAF has formally notified all qualified federations to ensure their final lists are submitted well ahead of kickoff.

For the Super Eagles, this means head coach and selectors now have just days to finalise squad decisions, including late calls on fitness and form.

In its circular to member associations, CAF reiterated that no player changes will be allowed after the December 11 deadline, except in cases of serious injury. Any such request must be backed by a detailed medical report and approved by the AFCON Organising Commission.

The strict timeline places additional pressure on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which is expected to announce a provisional list before trimming it down to the final 23. Nigeria, chasing a fourth continental title after last lifting the trophy in 2013, faces high expectations ahead of the Morocco showpiece.

The squad deadline also means clubs—both domestic and international—can expect early communication on player release, ensuring adequate preparation time before the Super Eagles begin their AFCON campaign.

CAF is expected to release further logistical details in the coming weeks as host nation Morocco continues preparations for what promises to be one of the most anticipated editions of the tournament.
