Despite AFCON Cup loss, Super Eagles expected to soar in FIFA ranking on Thursday

When the FIFA ranking is released on Thursday, the Super Eagles are expected to make appreciable rise. In the current ranking, the Super Eagles are number 42 in the world and sixth in Africa.

The just concluded AFCON will have a great impact on the next ranking that will be released by FIFA on Thursday. The top five in Africa – Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt – all failed to make it to the quarter-finals.

Cote d’Ivoire, the reigning African champions are 49 in the world and eight in Africa.

Although both Cote d’Ivoire and Nigeria are numbers one and two in the Afcon, they may not automatically be so in the FIFA ranking as it is based on coefficient which is a numerical or constant quantity placed before and multiplying the variables in an algebraic expression.
