AFCON 2023 Final: Advisory for hypertensive football fans goes viral

Ahead of this Sunday’s blockbuster clash of Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire in the Africa Cup of Nations final match, a health advisory has gone viral in virtually all sports-based WhatsApp platforms.

 

This is the consequence of sad incidents that happened to some Nigerians in the closing stage of Super Eagles’ semi-final win over South Africa.

 

From a potential 2-0 lead, the scoreline dramatically changed to 1-1 after a late Nigerian goal was cancelled and a penalty kick was awarded for an incident leading to the annulled goal.

The most common health advisory reads:

 

Please if you have high blood pressure,don’t watch Nigeria match again.

Please we will send you delayed broadcast or recorded version after the match .

Semifinal alone claimed three lives .
