President Infantino expresses condolences to families of Malawi accident

JUNE 05: Flags lowered to half-mast at the Home of FIFA, in memory of those who lost their lives in a road accident after a football match in Malawi

The President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino has expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the members of Malawi Club,  Nyungwe United Football Club who were involved in a road accident over the weekend.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the road accident involving members of Nyungwe United Football Club who were returning after playing a domestic fixture.”

The Club’s Players and supporters travelling on a truck which overturned on their way back and over 20 people have been confirmed dead and several others injured.

President Infantino added that “My thoughts and prayers are with the people who lost their lives, those who have been injured in this tragic accident, and the staff at the Football Association of Malawi at this difficult time.”
