Penalty kicks have denied the Nigeria’s U20 girls, Falconets from becoming victorious at the maiden WAFU B U20 Women Championship in Kumasi on Saturday.

First they conceded a 39th minute penalty kick which Ghana’s Stella Nyamekye converted to give the host team a 1-0 lead.

Then the Nigerian girls laboured to draw level in the second half through  Flourish Sebastine, just four minutes to regulation time.

At 1-1, the match went into the lottery of penalty shoot-out. Again, the Nigerian girls paid the penalty.

However, they could not hold their own in the spot kicks, scoring only one of their four kicks while Ghana scored three of their five to claim the trophy.

Defeat in the final was a hard one to swallow for the Falconets, who scored a total of 20 goals in their five matches at the tournament.
