Flying Eagles tumble from first to third but…

Again, the Nigeria Flying Eagles failed in their bid to beat Brazil at the U20 World Cup after they crumbled 2-0  in their last Group D match. In a corresponding match, Italy beat hapless Dominican Republic 3-0 thus making the trio of Nigeria, Italy and Brazil to finish with six points apiece.

But losing to Brazil and with Italy winning with a massive 3-0 against Dominican Republic means that the Flying Eagles, the initial group leaders going into the last matches, are now third based on goal difference.

Brazil lead the group following their 6-0 win over Dominican Republic which gave the South Americans a massive goal difference of seven goals. Italy follow with a two goal difference. For Nigeria, the Flying Eagles finished with just a goal credit.

Poor Flying Eagles! They conceded the two damaging goals in a space of four minutes in the closing stage of the first half.

The first came in the 43rd minute off a corner kick as Jean Pedroso nodded the ball in. Before the Flying Eagles could settle down, a second goal came in the second minute of the added time through Marquinhos
