Brazil’s Matheus Martins talks tough ahead of potential explosive clash with Nigeria

Attacking midfielder Matheus Martins who was the scorer of Brazil’s sixth goal in Wednesday’s 6-0 defeat of Dominican Republic has vowed that the Flying Eagles would be upstaged from the first position on the Group D log.

He was quoted on the official on-line outlet of the Brazil football federation.

The direct meaning of this is that his team will again defeat the Nigerian side to achieve a six-point apiece and upstage Nigeria on goal-difference. With the 6-0 defeat of Dominican Republic, Brazil have a five-goal surplus as against Nigeria’s three.

A defeat of Nigeria will deplete Nigeria’s goal difference and increase that of Brazil and both will have six points each.

A possible heavy defeat of Dominican Republic may also push Nigeria down to the third on the log. Matheus Martins, the attacking midfielder was quoted as expressing happiness to be on the score sheet and would like to repeat the same in Saturday’s match with Nigeria.

“I was happy with the goal scored. It was my first goal at the U-20 World Cup. It gives confidence for the team and also for us to move on to the next game and get the classification, “he said.

Matheus spoke further on expectations at the match with Nigeria.

“The thinking is positive. The group is happy and we are going to have a great training session tomorrow (Friday) to close the preparation and beat Nigeria and qualify in first place, God willing (…) I think it will be a great game. They will impose their game too, because they got two wins, but we are Brazil and we go in to always win”.
