Goal scoring Andy Okpe propels Remo Stars to another victorious outing

Lanky scorer, Andy Okpe who has been missing in action for some time over the regularization of his transfer from Ghana has resumed what he loves doing best – goal scoring. He was a substitute player to Abdulrasheed Awoyemi.

His solitary goal almost at the dot of regulation time has given the rave of the moment, Remo Stars a valuable 1-0 away win over Gombe United and put the model club in vantage position to contest for the league title as they did last season.

For Remo Stars, it was a huge revenge. Last season, it was Gombe Stars that terminated the boys of Kunle Soname’s 11-match unbeaten run with a 1-0 defeat at the Pantami stadium Gombe om matchday 12.

Remo Stars are currently on six points just like the rejuvenated Bendel Insurance who also beat last season’s league runners-up 2-1 in a dramatic duel in Benin.

The match produced two late goals in the added time. Bendel Insurance had shot into the lead in the 53rd minute through Isamael Seriki. But the visitors, Plateau United got a lifeline in the first minute of added time when Mustapha Abdulahi converted a penalty kick award.

But never say die to Bendel Insurance. Imade Osehenkhoe restored the lead in the third minute of the added time.

Shooting Stars who scored three away goals last Sunday were goal shy at home as they played a goalless draw with Kwara United whose ‘adopted’ home ground is also the Lekan Salami Stadium at Adamasingba area of Ibadan.

Both teams with two draws so far in the league trail one another on the Group A log. Shooting Stars are number five while Kwara United are sixth.
