CAF shifts Interclub Preliminaries Draw to Tuesday

Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has shifted to Tuesday, the draw ceremony for the Champions League and the Confederation Cup.

It was originally scheduled for Monday. It will hold at 4pm in Cairo which is 2pm in Nigeria.

This draw will mark the beginning of a journey to the 2022/23 season of both  CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Wydad Athletic Club are the reigning  CAF Champions League champions. Another Moroccan club, RS Berkane are the defending champions of the CAF Confederation Cup – having won the trophy twice in three years.

Preliminary rounds’ dates are:

  • First Round (Home/Away): 09 – 11 Sep / 16 – 18 Sep 2022
  • Second Round (Home/Away): 07 – 9 Oct / 14 – 16 Oct 2022

For the Champions League, the Nigeria flagbearers are Rivers United and Plateau United. There are 58 clubs in the race.

The two Nigerian clubs will begin the series from the first round on 9 September as they are not among the six exempted from the first round.

Those exempted are: TP Mazembe of Congo DR, Al Ahly of Egypt, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, Esperance of Tunisia and two Morocco flagbearers – Wydad Athletic of Casablanca and Raja Casablanca.
