She was full emotion as tears of joy could be seen streaming on her cheeks as the Nigerian national anthem was being rendered at the World Athletics Championship in Oregon, US.
Golden girl, Tobi Amusan had caused the public rendition of the Nigerian anthem for the very first time in the history of the championship.
Everyone seems impressed. The President, Muhammadu Buhari was the first public officer to congratulate her. Deluge of others had followed except possibly from the state government where she hails from.
Except for a tweet that was not properly propagated, the power of sports in public relations seems lacking.
Delta State Government had even congratulated her along with silver medallist, Ese Brume. Ogun State, hardly known for sports promotion, let alone development has not considered their citizen’s achievement a notable one.
Even the feat of Remo Stars FC in ensuring that a club from the state plays in the continent after over three days since the era of Abiola Babes is yet to be publicly acknowledged.
But great thanks to Amusan’s Alma Mater. The school campus, students of Our Lady of Apostle Secondary School, Ijebu-Ode, came to the rescue as they honoured their old student, Tobi Amusan, a world champion and breaker of two world records in one night.
They rendered the national anthem as they displayed the poster of the star of the moment.
