Rivers flow into their first ever Nigeria league title

Published

The struggle is over for title chasing Rivers United as they have become the Nigerian champions for the season 2021/2022 even of they lose to Nasarawa United this Sunday.

On the home ground of the outgoing champions, Akwa United, Rivers United title aspirations were given a big boost as Plateau United succumbed to a 2-1 away loss to Akwa United.

The loss means a 10 point gap to catch up with flowing away Rivers United who have an away duel with Nasarawa United on Sunday. Plateau United have just three matches to go and even if they will all, they will be a point below the haul by Rivers United even if the flow-away champions lose their remaining four matches including that of this Sunday

Should they win, they extend the gap to 13 which will be unassailable  even with three matches for them to go the close of the season.

It is the club’s first Nigerian league title.

Plateau United are however primed to be runners up and thus join Rivers United to present a Nigeria United double assault at the CAF Champions League next season.
