Nigeria’s manager, Austin Eguavoen has replicated his 100 per cent performance he achieved in 2006 when his team became the only Nigerian side to win all Group games.

This Wednesday night, despite ringing changes in his starting line up when he played eight new starters, the Super Eagles were able to beat Guinea Bissau 2-0.

After a goalless first half, Umar Sadiq left footed the ball in from close range after receiving the ball from Kelechi Iheanacho.

Minutes later, Nigeria’s most inspirational player, Moses Simon was brought in for Chidera Ejuke.

Moses Simon’s impact was immediately felt. In the 75th minute, he waltzed through a sea of legs before hitting the crossbar. William Troost-Ekong was on hand to score from close range.

At first, the goal was ruled offside. But a VAR review validated the goal.

Guinea Bissau has thus completed a six-match series in the Africa Cup without scoring a goal.
