It has been 40  years since former continental pace-setters, the Black Stars of Ghana last won the Africa Cup of Nations.

That was way back in 1982 in a final match with Libya, the very first to be decided on penalty kicks. Ghana won their then record-extending fourth time victory having won the original trophy for keeps in 1978 after winning it thrice.

Since, results have not squared with expectations. They began this current competition with a 1-0 loss to Morocco and will be hoping for a great revival in this Friday’ s clash with equally ambitious Gabon.

The Central African side on the other hand will be going for consolidation as they emerged 1-0 victors over debutants, Comoros.

This Friday’s clash therefore offer a tough mission as Gabon will pick a knock-out stage ticket if they win while Ghana’s woes may be compounded.
