Ahead of today’s epic encounter of Nigeria and Egypt in the Group D of the Africa Cup of Nations, Sudan national team general manager, Mohsen Sayed, has reportedly said that Egypt are favourites to beat Nigeria.

Egyptian publication, Kingfut quoted the Sudanese from a radio programme, Mega FM.

“On paper, the Egyptian national team is better than Nigeria and is the closest to winning, but football is full of surprises. I definitely hope that Egypt win,” remarked the Sudanese whose team also face Guinea Bissau in what analysts may consider a soft fixture.

But both Sudan and Guinea Bissau met in the World Cup qualifier in which the relatively unrated West Africans a 4-2 away win over Sudan.

The Sudanese general manager is hoping Egypt will beat Nigeria while they in turn beat Guinea Bissau in the double-header fixture at Garoua.

The permutation is that Sudan will be at advantage when meeting Nigeria in the group’s matchday 2 fixtures.

“Egypt has the best player in the world,” Mohsen Sayed told Mega FM alluding to Mohamed Salah.

He then spoke about their game against Guinea-Bissau, saying they’re familiar with their opponent’s style of play.

“We know the Guinea-Bissau national team very well. We met twice in the [World Cup] qualifiers a month ago. We are building a strong generation for the future and all the players will participate in their first major international tournament,” he explained

“The draw served us well, as our match against Egypt will be the last one in the group stage,” he concluded.
