Alloa Athletic and Guinea-Bissau defender, Fernandy Mendy, according to Egyptian publication, Kingfut, has explained how he plans on attempting to stop Mohamed Salah during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Africa Cup of Nations starts in just over a week as it runs in Cameroon between the 9th of January until the 6th of February.

Guinea-Bissau were handed a very tough draw after being placed in Group D alongside Sudan as well as Nigeria, and Egypt, who have 10 AFCONs between them.

This is the country’s third ever, and third consecutive, appearance in the AFCON and will need a strong run to get out of the group stages for the first time.

After facing Sudan in the opener, Guinea-Bissau will come up against Mohamed Salah’s Egypt and Mendy knows they will need a collective effort to stop the Liverpool superstar.

“He’s one of the best players in the world so he has his qualities and I have mine,” he told Sky Sports.

“Mo is much better than me so I’ll just try to do my best and try to stop him. I have team mates and they’re going to help me. If I can’t catch him, someone else will catch him.

“Just being in the squad is amazing. I’m just going to enjoy the moment and try to get into the team. Normally players can’t stop Mo Salah but we’re going to try and do our best,” he added.
