Joao Moutinho’s 82nd minute drive from the edge of the box was enough to seal a fully deserved three points for the visitors, condemning United to their first defeat under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

United, despite entering the contest off the back of a 3-1 win over Burnley on Thursday, were second best throughout the contest and could have counted themselves fortunate not have been behind by half time, with Wolves dominating the opening 45 minutes.

The defeat, which is United’s first in all competitions since sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November, has left them seventh in the table, four points behind Arsenal in the final UEFA Champions League spot

Although the reverse is a first under Rangnick, it was another uninspiring, laboured and forgettable performance, meaning the supporters have hit out at the German and the players on social media following the full-time whistle.
