A proposed friendly match which could have seen Africa Cup of Nations hosts, Cameroon take on one of Nigeria’s Group D opponents, Guinea Bissau has been called off.

According to a Cameroonian publication, sportsglitz,  Guinea Bissau players were scheduled to touchdown on Cameroonian soil on January 1, 2022, but for some reasons, they have pushed their date of arrival.

The Djurtus of Guinea Bissau prefer arriving from January 5. The Indomitable Lions who have been in camp since December 27, will now have to look elsewhere for a friendly, before the tournament proper.

CAF regulations does not allow Cameroon to play a friendly from the Jan. 4. The Indomitable Lions cannot play a friendly later than the 3rd of January, as they open the tourney against Burkina Faso on January 9.

As confidence swells on home soil, there’s hope that the hosts will be able to ride the wave of optimism, rather than be weighed down by the gross expectation they will encounter.

The five-time cup winners Cameroon, are in Group A along with Ethiopia, Cape Verde and Burkina Faso.
