Etebo out of Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifiers and Afcon finals

Super Eagles and Watford midfielder Peter Etebo has been ruled out of action for at least the next four months, making him unavailable for Super Eagles’ next and crucial assignments.

He is expected to be out for between four and five months because of a leg injury. It is gathered that the 25 year old tore a quad muscle in the Hornets’ 1-1 draw against Newcastle, and the club announced on Thursday that he would not return until the New Year.

The Nigeria international, who is on loan from Stoke, is therefore set to miss the World Cup qualifiers in October and November as well as the Africa Cup of Nations finals which begins on 9 January in Cameroon.

Etebo has won 39 caps for Nigeria and was part of the squad that beat Liberia 2-0 in a 2022 World Cup qualifier in September before being forced to miss the next tie in Cape Verde due to the UK’s coronavirus regulations.

He will be hoping the Super Eagles top the Group C of the World Cup qualifiers so he can resume international assignments in March when the final qualifiers for Qatar  2022 will be played.
