Jadon Sancho could immediately become one of Manchester United’s top earners if his proposed transfer from Borussia Dortmund goes through this summer, with personal terms already thought to have been largely agreed between the player’s camp and the Premier League side.

United have been targeting Sancho for the past two years and had been confident of striking a deal in the summer of 2020, only for things to break down when they refused to meet Dortmund’s non-negotiable price tag in excess of £100m.

United have never lost interest in Sancho, who has always been keen to make the move, and talks between the clubs have started up again. This time, Dortmund’s demands have fallen and a fee looks more likely to be agreed, even though an opening bid was rejected  this week.

That figure is thought to have been £67m, around £10m short of Dortmund’s current asking price. The German club are also still seeking around £4m in added extras as well.

Late July is believed to be Dortmund’s cut-off for a deal, but with negotiations ongoing, The Sun claims that United ‘expect’ to be able to announce the transfer after Euro 2020.

The tabloid newspaper writes that Sancho has agreed terms on a potential five-year contract that would earn him £350,000 per week. Currently only David de Gea earns more at the club, although a new contract for Paul Pogba this summer could also see him move into similar territory.

There already appears to be more substance and momentum to the ongoing talks than there were a year ago. With the player himself on board and that side of things virtually taken care of, United have around six weeks to thrash out the structure of a deal with Dortmund.

Sancho would fill a big hole on the right flank that has existed in the United  team since Antonio Valencia was repurposed as a full-back around 2015.
