As in previous seasons, Nigerian clubs at CAF inter clubs competitions are falling like a pack of cards blown by the wind. After just the opening round, two of the four teams are already out.

No-hopers, Plateau United played a goalless draw with hosts, Simba SC of Tanzania to crash out 1-0 on aggregate after having lost their home match to the Tanzania’s who has Wekundu wa Msimbazi to thank for the solitary goal.

It is the first time Simba will overcome a Nigerian club having failed over 40 years ago against the defunct Water Corporation of Ibadan and Raccah Rovers of Kano.

In similar development, Kano Pillars also crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup after playing goalless at home against Senegal’s ASC Jaraaf in the return leg match in Kaduna.

The Nigerian side lost 3-1 in the first leg played last weekend. Rivers United and Enyimba are now the remaining Nigerian clubs on the continent.

Rivers will on Sunday host Futoro from Equatorial Guinea in Port Harcourt after they lost 2-1 in a Confederation Cup preliminary round first leg tie last weekend.

The brightest chance of a Nigerian club advancing is by Enyimba who, with a valuable 1-0 away win from last weekend will host  Burkina Faso’s  Rahimo of Burkina Faso.
