Former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu has joined Africa’s wealthiest man, Aliko Dangote in the quest to get the control of popular English Premiership side, Arsenal.

While for over a decade, Dangote has indicated interests and hopes to buy the club in 2021, Kalu, who is the Chief Whip of Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber, the Senate, has declared his intention to buy 35% of the stakes in the club that is very popular among Nigerians.

In a Whatspp message received from the frontline politician by Sports Village Square, Kalu pointed at the success Enyimba FC recorded under his watch while he was governor of Abia State from 1999 to 2007.

Enyimba became the first and only Nigerian football club to have won the premier continental club championship, the CAF Champions League in 2003 and repeated the feat in 2004 to become the first back-to-back winners.

Kalu remarked that the success has continuously increased his passion for football. “Our target is to lift the Champions League and Premier League back to back as we did with Enyimba, he added.
