After weeks of grandstanding, the president of FC Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu has finally resigned with the other members of the board.
The resignation occurred late Tuesday night. Just before bed time on Tuesday, the embattled president remarked: “I am communicating my resignation from my position of president, along with my entire board of directors.”
He decided to quit after the Catalan Government allowed the vote of no confidence to take place on November 1-2. In the main time, Carles Tusquets, renowned economist and one of Nunez’s directors will become Barca’s interim president until the new elections which have to be held in the next 40 to 90 days.
Bartomeu is leaving office after five years at the helm of the Catalan club.
His final year was marred by several off-field issues, including the notorious social media scandal, Lionel Messi’s attempt to leave and the coaching merry-go-round.
