The embattled president of FC Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu has explained why he will not resign despite the increasing pressure for him to quit. He is at the moment facing a possible ‘no confidence’ vote.
But he has come out that his refusal to step down was due to the fact that the club will be without a president for four months should he quit. “It would be a bad decision to leave the club to the manager (Ronald Koeman).
“The postponed presidential elections will take place in March and that date remains fixed”, said Bartomeu.”We have already set March for elections. Even if we hold the vote of no confidence, that date remains fixed,” he explained.
In September, it was announced that the presidential elections would be postponed from the summer to March 20, 2021. Thus, it seems like the current board don’t plan to postpone the elections once again – if Bartomeu steps down, the new president will take charge only four months later.
