MANCHESTER UNITED STROLL INTO CARABAO CUP QUARTER-FINALS

Manchester United booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup as they recorded a far more routine win over Brighton at the Amex than they did over the weekend.

United were in action for the second time in five days on the South Coast but there was to be no late drama on this occasion, as the visitors had the win wrapped up well before the final whistle.

United made 11 changes from the team that started at the weekend, with only Victor Lindelof keeping his place in the team.

Scott McTominay opened the scoring for United in the first half with a precise header from Juan Mata’s free-kick, and Mata turned scorer after the break as he doubled United’s lead with a neat finish after some fine link-up play with Donny van de Beek.

Paul Pogba came off the bench and his deflected free-kick made it 3-0.
