When Atletico Madrid come into confrontation with Barcelona, it will also be a clash of two friends – Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.
But at an emotion-laden farewell for Suarez from Barcelona, Suarez revealed that his friend and now former teammate, Messi had no objection to his joining the rival club.
Spanish publication, Tribuna, quoted the Uruguayan as saying: “Leo knows what I think and I know what he thinks. We are old enough to give each other advice.”
That was Suarez’s response to a question on whether his decision to join Atletico Madrid will influence his relationship with Messi.
“Leo felt strange because I’m going to a direct rival, but nothing will change our relationship. I have already faced Leo with the national team so this will not change our relationship.
“Everyone knows about the relationship we have.”
Suarez left Barcelona for Atletico after being told to find a new club by Ronald Koeman. The 33-year-old held his final presser as a Barca player on Thursday and is set to join his new teammates in the Spanish capital later this week.
