The US sportswear giant have teamed up with the Premier League champions, following their acrimonious split from New Balance Liverpool have unveiled their new kit, their first by new manufacturer Nike after their split with New Balance.
The American company have, effective as of August 1, become the club’s official kit supplier following their less-than-amicable breakup with New Balance – which ended in courtroom drama.
It is the first collaboration between the Premier League winners and the Oregon-based brand, with Nike promising to serve the Anfield faithful through “innovation, design and creative collaborations that will bring excitement and energy”.
The Reds have signed a five-year deal with Nike, who are set to release an away shirt, third shirt and two alternate colour goalkeeper shirts in the coming weeks – believed to be on August 4.
LiverpooL managing director and chief commercial officer Billy Hogan – soon to become the club’s new CEO – announced: “We said back in January, when we first announced the new partnership with Nike, about our expectations on them becoming an incredible partner for the club
“We’re so excited to be starting this journey with Nike, the global leader in sports apparel and we look forward to working together to bring performance and lifestyle product to our supporters in the year ahead.”
Liverpool’s new home kit is, as always, comprised of the traditional red jersey, red shorts and red socks.
But also complimenting the traditional white trim is the introduction of teal to the home jersey – a nod to some of the mid-90s efforts.
Additionally, on the nape of the neck is the 96 emblem encased by eternal flames, sitting proudly in memory of the 96 children, women and men who lost their lives in the Hillsborough disaster.
“I’ve been part of the Nike family for six years and we have an incredible relationship,” said Reds’ defender Virgil van Dijk.
“I’m very familiar with the quality of the design and innovation that goes into making a kit like this.
“Stepping out as champions next season in this kit will be really special.”
