Diego Forlán played his game number 100 in his professional career with Uruguay when his country faced the Super Eagles in a FIFA Confederations Cup match on this date, 20 June 2013 in Salvador, Brazil.

It was a remarkable occasion for him, as Uruguay did not only beat Nigeria 2-1, but Diego Forlán scored the winning goal as well as offering the assist in the opening goal scored by Diego Lugano.

Shortly after Lugano opened scoring in the 19th minute, Mikel Obi leveled up, scoring his only FIFA Confederation Cup goal.

The loss of the Group B match condemned Nigeria to winning the more challenging duel with the then World Cup holders, Spain in their final group match.

It was not to be as the Nigerian side fell 3-0 to the World champions thus missing qualification for the semifinals.
