MINISTRY OF SPORTS’ PERM SEC HEADS COMMITTEE ON NATIONAL STADIUM, LAGOS

The long-abandoned National Stadium in Lagos may come alive again as the Nigeria Ministry of Sports set up a 13-man task force on the arena.

The sports minister, Sunday Dare set up the committee which will be headed by Aduda Gabriel, the permanent secretary at the ministry.

Other members are:

Dr Paul Onyido, Muhammed Danjuma, Engr. Okedairo, Dr. Akinlotan Olusegun, Alanamu Abolore and Bode Durotoye.

Also in the committee are Biodun Owoborode, Benjamin Ukwuoma,  Adeolu Fasanya, Idris Olorunimbe and Abdulgafaar Apena.

The National Stadium Lagos, previously a national monument, which had hosted important sporting, and cultural events like the 2nd All Africa Games in 1973, the 2nd World Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture as well as the 1980 and 2000 Africa Cup of Nations and the 1999 FIFA U-20 World Cup, has been in a state of disrepair.

Previously a fortress of the Super Eagles, the stadium last hosted the core national team in 2004.
