Tijani Babangida scored just one goal at the World Cup. It was in the Super Eagles’ 4-1 loss to Denmark at the Round of 16 tie at the France ’98.
As insignificant as the goal may look, it has an underlying mystery. It was scored 13 minutes to the end of the match by Tijani Babangida who wore shirt number 13.
The goal also happened to be Nigeria’s 13th World Cup goal since the opener by Rashidi Yekini in the 1994 match with Bulgaria. Significantly too, the number of goals Nigeria had conceded at the World Cup at the time stood at 13.
