President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih has condoled with the family of Yahaya Mohammed, the president of the Nigeria Weightlifting federation who passed on at the weekend at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano after a brief illness.

“We are still dazed by the news of the demise”, remarked Orbih in a press statement.

“His death occurred just when his efforts and investment in Nigeria weightlifting have started bearing and yielding fruits. His firm belief in youth development is legendary with the information about how he pushed and developed the youths in Jigawa State during his tenure as chairman.

“It is not just the Weightlifting Federation, but the entire Nigerian sporting family that will miss the friendly, boisterous gentle giant for his achievements. We will never forget the bountiful “harvest” our nation had in weightlifting at the last All Africa Games in Morocco, with 16 gold, 13 silver and 18 bronze medals.

“The Weightlifting Federation has lost a gem at a time his zeal, passion, dedication and wealth of experience is most needed.

“May the gentle soul of “Biggy” rest in peace. May God comfort the family”, Orbih concluded.
