Just as the whole world united in 1916 and 1940 to fight common enemies during World War I and World War II, so it is in 2020 as the battle rages on.

In Nigeria, the athletes’ commission has waded in, lining up 16 sports stars across many disciplines to lend their voices to the battle that humanity is fighting against the common enemy, the Covid-19 that is ravaging the globe.

The message is the same and clear: people must obey all hygiene rules rolled out by government agencies and above all, stay at home and practice social distancing as recommended.

The 2-minute, 22-second message opens with weightlifter, Mariam Usman urging Nigerians to listen to all advisories given by government agencies. Another star, Seun Adigun, former sprinter remarked that ‘we are in the battle’ together.

These are followed by messages from huddler/sprinter, Tobi Amusan; badminton player, Anuoluwapo Opeyori; wrestler, Odunayo Adekuoroye and D’Tigress’ Evelyn Akhator.
