NIGERIA’S SPORTS MINISTER, SUNDAY DARE SET TONE FOR NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL

Nigeria’s sports minister, Sunday Dare at the weekend engaged in flurry of activities that took him to two states of Delta and Anambra.

In Asaba, Delta State, he welcomed the National Sports Festival torch and also decorated Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as a supporter of Nigeria’s Olympic Games aspirations.

According to a media release by his aides, the minister got the Delta State governor to adopt six athletes for the Olympics 2020. 

He also inspected the Stephen Keshi Stadium ahead of the now postponed Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match involving Nigeria and Sierra Leone.

According to the release, the minister also met with the mother of one of Nigeria’s promising athletes, Ese Brume.

He then dashed across the River Niger into Anambra State to be at Umbaku- umku to attend the oath taking of the new batch of the National Youth Service Corps members where he joined Governor Willie Obiano to inaugurate the new permanent orientation camp in the state. 

The minister was also in Benin to inspect the games village and stadium facilities for the National Sports Festival.

He met with some members of the National Sports Festival Local Organising Committee.  He also held a meeting to review the medical preparations for the sports festival especially to review plans for the containment of the spread of coronavirus. The deputy governor was on hand to assist. 

He is in touch with the Health Minister and thanked him for taking the lead in this regard.
