Real Madrid ‘are keeping tabs on Mauricio Pochettino’ with a view to potentially replacing Zinedine Zidane in the summer.
Argentine former Tottenham manager Pochettino is highly regarded by the Bernabeu hierarchy and is expected to return to work during the off-season.
According to The Independent, Real have asked to be kept aware of Pochettino’s intentions regarding his next job in case they want to replace Zidane.
Though Real defeated Barcelona 2-0 in Sunday’s Clasico to return to the top of the table, there have been tensions behind the scenes this season.
They lost 2-1 to Manchester City last week in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie amid rumblings of discontent at Zidane’s methods from senior players.
It marks a stark contrast to Zidane’s first spell at the Bernabeu in which he won three consecutive Champions League crowns, the league title and two FIFA Club World Cups.
He returned to the job last March after an attempt to extract Pochettino from Tottenham failed. Pochettino was sacked in November last year.
However, they could eventually get their man this summer with the club asking for a clear channel of communication to Pochettino.
