Nigeria and FC Barcelona football queen, Asisat Oshoala owes the media huge gratitude as mounted the African soccer thrown for a fourth time that enables her equal the record of compatriot, Perpetua Nkwocha.
She had 351 votes, which is 30 more than her fiercest rival, Ajara Nchout of Cameroon and Thembi Kgatlana of South Africa.
In a forensic audit conducted by Sports Village Square, it was found out that at the first stage of voting conducted with 15 technical official across the continent and one from France, Cameroon’s Ajara Nchout had the edge, getting 39 votes as against Oshoala’s 25.
Nigeria football Federation (NFF) member, Ahmed Yusuf did not vote, denying Oshoala valuable points.
Most of the technical committee members are from Francophone countries, thus giving Nchout a clear edge.
Frenchman, Jean Michel Benezet did not vote.
Another set of voters were the legends, among whom were two Nigerians, Nwankwo Kanu and Perpetua Nkwocha. While Kanu voted Oshoala first, giving her valuable five points, Nkwocha rated Cameroon’s Nchout as the best and voted Oshoala last.
It was Nkwocha’s record of four wins that Oshoala was assailing.
South Africa’s legend, Lucas Radebe was the only other among the other eight legends that gave Oshoala full mark.
Nchout had the support of her compariots, Samuel Eto’o and Patrick Mboma who gave her valuable 10 points.
The combined voting of the technical committee members and the legends gave Nchout 74-51 votes over Oshoala.
The cruising to a likely victory by Nchout was truncated by the massive votes that Oshoala got from the media.
While the Cameroonian had 59 votes from the media, Oshoala had 78 to leapfrog ahead.
