ANTHONY JOSHUA EYES HEAVYWEIGHT UNIFICATION FIGHT WITH DEONTAY WILDER

Contrary to the wish of boxing promoter, Frank Warren who wants Anthony Joshua to give up his four world heavyweight title belts and wait to face the winner of either Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder, the two-time world champion is insisting on a showdown with Deontay Wilder in order to unify the five boxing titles.

According to UK’s The Sun, Joshua wants the fight in UK. He has long wanted a shot at the Bronze Bomber as he wishes to pick up his WBC strap in order to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999.

Joshua is already faced with the prospect of vacating one of his belts after he got a mandatory title defences against Kubrat Pulez by IBF and Oleksandr Usyk for the WBO.’

According to The Sun, Wilder is set for a rematch against Tyson Fury on February 22 following their epic draw in December 2018.

If the American overcomes the Gypsy King then the clamour for a unification fight with Joshua will only intensify.

But Joshua is adamant it makes much more sense for Wilder to travel to these shores rather himself heading to the US.

He told IFL TV: “80,000 people or an arena that can hold 15,000 elsewhere?

“It makes sense to have it here [in the UK].”

The star, who reclaimed his heavyweight gold from Andy Ruiz in Saudi Arabia on December 7, added: “That’s probably what’s holding it up, we want it here.

“Obviously there’s broadcasters, but we have to look at what makes sense for the division.

“Sometimes you’ve got to go across the pond to make it work.”
