Hosts Egypt proved too strong for South Africa, defeating them 3-0 at the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2019 semifinal on Tuesday evening at the Cairo International Stadium, to reach the final and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in style.

The Olympic Pharaohs scored three times after the break to secure their place in next year’s Olympics, and set a date against Cote d’Ivoire in the final next Friday.

South Africa will face Ghana for the third place and the last Olympics ticket earlier on the same day.

The first half was a story of rare chances as both sides entered the game on a highly cautious note. After some scarce opportunities, they went to the break with a barren stalemate.

But after the break skipper Ramadan Sobhy broke the deadlock from the spot at the hour mark to send some 70000 supporters into frenzy mood.

Abdul Rahman Magdy scored a brace in quick succession at 84 and 89 minutes to confirm Egypt’s win and their place in the final.
