Coach of the Nigeria U23 team that was eliminated from the qualifying tournament for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Imama Amapakabo, has defended his position.
According to BBC online reports, the coach remarked that the teams he led were just unlucky.
He led the Super Eagles Team B to a failed mission in WAFU and the team again lost to Togo in the final qualifying round for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Incidentally, it was also Togo that knocked the team out of contention in the WAFU Cup.
“We were unlucky and unfortunate to go out because we gave everything, but it’s totally out of my hands,” he said.
“I know that, as a coach, you come under pressure. We have to look at the future – this [Olympic hopes] has ended, whichever way we want to look at it”, BBC quoted him as saying.
