The Uruguay versus Argentina match, which will pitch two players of FC Barcelona against each other, is about to be called off.
Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, two Barcelona players are expected to feature for their countries, Argentina and Uruguay respectively.
But the clash, dubbed as El Clasico del Rio de La Plata, was scheduled to take place in Tel Aviv, Israel, next week Tuesday.
This was viewed as a perfect warm-up for both sides who kick off their World Cup qualifying campaign in March 2020.
Now though it’s on the brink of being called off due to the military confrontation between Israel and Palestine. Palestine fired close to 150 rockets at Israel following an airstrike that killed a Palestinian.
The Argentine and Uruguayan football associations are now worried over the high threat levels in Israel and are reportedly looking for an alternative location for the friendly.
This is not the first time the attempt to organize a game featuring Messi in Israel meets a pushback.
Argentina national team was scheduled to play a friendly against Israel back in June 2018 in Jerusalem before going to the World Cup. However, after multiple protests, the game was cancelled.
