Reigning African 400m record holder (49.10), Chief Falilat Ogunkoya-Omotayo has been chosen as the chairperson of the South West Athletics Association (SWAA). That is the high point of the communiqué at the end of the athletics’ body’s meeting at the weekend.
Falitat, a two-time Olympic Games who was voted the world’s best quarter-miler in 1998 was a unanimous choice of SWAA which is a body of all chairmen of Athletics Associations in the six South West states of Nigeria and south west members on the board of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).
The chairman of Ekiti Athletics Association, Samuel Fatunla emerged as the technical director. Other positions include that of Director of marketing/Sponsorship, which is being occupied by Dr. Solomon Alao, the chairman of Lagos State Athletics Association.
His Oyo State counterpart, Dr. Isaac Ogada is the secretary of the body while Dare Esan of the Complete Sports is the Media Director.
Ademola Adigun, Chairman of Osun State Athletics Association is the Treasurer while Olamide George, the South West representative on the board of the AFN as the vice president will serve as leader of SWAA.
