WHY EDO 2020 HAS LEOPARD AS MASCOT

TheChairman of the Publicity and Communication Sub-committee of the National Sports Festival tagged Edo 2020, Tony Akiotu, has explained the choice of the leopard as the mascot of the Games.

He pointed out that the animal has a historical tie with the ancient Benin Kingdom. Akiotu, made the revelation at the weekend during the unveiling of the mascot and logo of the sports festival.

The mascot is named ‘Etin ‘ which according to Akiotu means strength. The power was given to the mascot in recognition of the attributes of the leopard, adding that all should support Edo State to host a successful National Sports festival.

The Group Managing Director of DAAR Communications appealed to corporate bodies such as communication companies, banks, betting companies, oil industries, state governors as well individuals to support Governor Godwin Obaseki in staging one of the best ever festivals in 2020.

 ‘To my constituency which is the media, both the print and electronics, I say a big thank you for the publicity you have given Edo 2020 so far. But like Oliver Twist, we are asking for more.

“We are partners in progress. Edo 2020 rests on our shoulders so let’s give it the publicity it deserves”, he stressed
