Manchester United are reportedly in talks with Egyptian giants, Al Ahly to sign the Pharoahs’ goalkeeper, Mohamed El Shennawi  when the winter transfer window reopens in January.

The information is gleaned from the UK Birmingham Mail. According to the newspaper, Manchester United are are looking for a replacement for injured goalkeeper David De Gea who received a muscle injury during Spain’s 1-1 away game against Sweden in the Euro 2020 qualifiers on Tuesday and is expected to be side-lined for a few weeks.

The Premier League giants’ second-choice goalie, Sergio Romero, is the club’s only back-up for De Gea, and is in line to start against Liverpool this Sunday.

“If the report is true it is brilliant news and it will be suitable for El-Shennawi,” Ahly’s marketing advisor Adly El-Qei told the club’s television programme.

“The only problem for Manchester United is the injury of De Gea and when he recovers he will be the regular goalkeeper.

“But if El-Shennawi produces superb performances as he can do it. Manchester could offload De Gea.”
