SUNDAY DARE DISSOLVES NIGERIA HOUSE

Nigeria’s Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare has directed the Nigeria Olympics Committee ( NOC) to dissolve the Nigeria House, the initiative that addresses the social aspects of  Nigeria’s participation at Olympic Games.

Sunday Dare gave the directive at meeting with Presidents, Technical Directors and Secretaries General of National Sports and Federations involved with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, held at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday.

He revealed that the Ministry and the Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC), on the heels of the dissolution, will subject the body and its activities to a forensic review with a view to reposition it.

Continuing, the Minister stated: “I received briefing amongst others on the activities of the Nigeria House, an initiative to address social aspects of the Olympics.

“The Ministry and the NOC shall look into the activities of this body with a view to reposition it. Pending the review, I directed the NOC to dissolve forthwith the leadership of the Nigeria House to allow for a proper review,” he explained.

In the course of his address, the minister disclosed that the National Council for Arts and Culture was also invited to join this auspicious meeting of fulfilling the clarion call for early preparations and strategizing for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The objective, according to the Minister, is to accommodate sister agencies, in a  renewed attention to the socio-cultural aspects of the Olympics, as well as positively projecting the image of Nigeria at the Olympics.

Speaking on the occasion, the Permanent Secretary, Olusade Adesola, said the primary objective of this gathering of major stakeholders and technocrats  is to  strategize and forge a way forward for attainment of podium performances at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympic Games.
