DOHA 2019: HOW OKAGBARE, ODUDURU ESCAPED DISQUALIFICATION

The mix up within the Technical Committee of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria regarding the entry of two of its Athletes at the on-going World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar has been resolved.

According to Amanzi, Marcus, the chairman of the Media Committee of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, the situation which raised concerns and rightly so, within stakeholders and the Nigerian government especially on Saturday was eventually resolved on Sunday in Doha.

The decision by IAAF Jury

“The AFN was sad with the development and immediately took steps towards a resolution. President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Ibrahim Shehu Gusau instructed Sunday Adeleye, the Technical Director of AFN to write an appeal to the jury with attached documents and after due deliberations, the Jury decided the matter in favour of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria”, the press release by Marcus stated.

This means Blessing Okagbare–Ighoteguonor and Divine Oduduru, being the two athletes in question, will compete in the 200 Metres and relays at the IAAF World Championships in Doha.
